This is notice that Forest Township, Rice County will be holding a public hearing on May 8, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Forest Townhall (3625 Millersburg Blvd, Faribault, MN). The reason for the public hearing is to amend the ordinance governing the four subordinate service districts wastewater collection systems operated and maintained by Forest Township. The purpose of the amendment is to not allow short term rentals in the four wastewater systems operated and maintained by Forest Township. Short term rental is defined as, “rental of any residential home unit or accessory building for a short period of time.” The reason for the amendment is for the control of sewage flows to the main treatment site and to prolong the useful years of the main sand treatment beds and secondary treatment fields. The current ordinance in place for each system can be found at foresttownship.com under the Community Septic tab. The SSD systems affected by this ordinance revision are Circle Lakes Estates, Circle Lake (Shorewood), Maple Shores, and the Fox Lake Subordinate Sewer Districts. This ordinance revision would only impact residents that are connected to the sewer systems that were built, operated, and are maintained by the Township. This change does not affect any privately-owned or cooperative septic systems that are privately operated and have no association with Forest Township.
